REPL team raise £2,500 in 100km Charity Challenge
An intrepid team of consultants from West Midlands-based retail IT consultancy and technology company, REPL Group, have raised £2,500 by taking part in a 100km walk for the Thames Path Challenge with the funds being split between two charities.
A team of eight from REPL, joined more than 1000 others in walking the 100km route along the banks of the River Thames from Putney Bridge in London to Henley in Oxfordshire. The endurance test saw 8 members tackling the entire course continuously without an overnight break, while others took the route at a more leisurely pace.
The team put their mental determination and physical stamina to the ultimate test to raise money for CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably which raises awareness of male suicide, and Molly Olly’s Wishes, which supports children with terminal or life-threatening illnesses and their families.
The event was REPL’s first time supporting CALM and reflects the company’s initiative to understand and support mental health issues, reduce the stigma and make employees aware of how the company can help.
Kafi Kawafi, senior consultant at REPL who organised the company’s involvement, said: “As an IT company with a large number of male team members, CALM was a natural fit. The charity is involved in some very interesting projects and we decided we’d like to do our bit to help them spread the word and also to raise awareness of male suicide within REPL and how we can support our employees with mental health issues.”
The Thames Path Challenge is the latest activity in a long-term fundraising partnership between REPL and Warwickshire-based Molly Olly’s Wishes. REPL’s support has helped to fund the only children’s palliative care consultant in the West Midlands and the money raised from REPL’s most recent endeavour will fund special individual wishes.
Frazer Jackson, senior consultant at REPL and co-organiser, added: “We eventually want to do another big challenge like climb up to the base camp of Mount Everest, but we decided that as our first challenge we would like to keep it accessible to as many people as possible and take on the 100km Thames Path Challenge. This was certainly a test of endurance and we’ve all been making the most of being able to put our feet up since.”
