Monday 7th August saw the Under 9’s age group win through to the finals at Edgbaston, home of the Birmingham Bears, in the Selco Builders Under 9 Super 8’s competition.
The format of the finals saw 8 teams play in two groups of four, with three group games for each team being played followed by semi-finals and a final knockout format for each group winner and runner-up.
This was a great opportunity for the young players to experience playing in a large stadium and most excitingly, should they progress to the knockout stages of the competition, play under the floodlights at Edgbaston.
It was a brave battle fought by the Stratford team but sadly they didn’t progress to the latter stages, winning one and narrowly losing the other two ties. The youngsters gave a really good account of themselves and showed that they have some exciting cricketers of the future amongst their ranks.
Russell Faulkner, Marketing Manager at REPL said “It was great to be able to attend Edgbaston stadium and see the team play, they have some great prospects within their team and hopefully Stratford will nurture them in the right direction so that they can go on to play for their senior sides and eventually on a national and international stage.”
A massive well done to everyone involved, the team should be really proud of their achievements.
