REPL Group expands operations in South Africa with a second global office opening
Retail IT consulting and technology firm REPL Group has announced the opening of a new South African office. Located in Cape Town, this will allow the group to expand on its existing presence in the country and worldwide.
The move comes after a period of substantial growth for the company in which it saw 57% growth in revenue year-on-year in the US and 40% in the UK. The opening of the South African office follows the recent opening of an additional office in Japan as the group increases its global presence.
“South Africa has a highly competitive retail landscape, with local established retailers as well as newer global entrants to the market, giving consumers a variety of options in all sectors. Consumer habits are also changing, with increased emphasis placed on convenience meaning that larger regional shopping centres have higher vacancy rates and larger supermarkets are following the convenience trend seen in Europe. This has required retailers to re-think their supply chain strategies and store formats to address the change in demand and get to the heart of what consumers want,” explained Kyle Harbison, managing director, REPL Africa.
The global firm, which specialises in providing workforce management, supply chain, point of sale, in-store digital, employee enablement and forecasting technology to retailers, has worked with a number of South African brands, including Shoprite, Builders Warehouse, Truworths and Woolworths.
Over the past year, REPL has also invested in new technology, recently launching ADAPT, a new piece of software that allows retailers to achieve a new level of forecasting and demand accuracy by using artificial intelligence and machine learning technology to create ‘what if’ models using newly applied branching techniques.
“We are looking forward to increasing our presence in South Africa and showing retailers the vital role technology can play in this highly competitive landscape”, said Mike Callender, executive chairman, REPL Group.
“With huge disparities in household income across South Africa, retailers are required to implement much more focused retail strategies to target specific consumer segments. This has seen retailers adopting very different approaches to product sourcing, supply chain and store operations. Through the introduction of new technology retailers can find solutions to these problems,” adds Callender.
