The Environments Manager is responsible for managing the systems in the Test environment and any at 3rd Party software providers sites subject to agreement. You will be working closely with the Release Management, Test Management, the PMO, Application Delivery, other Application Support organisations, coordinating with the infrastructure release schedule to ensure systems are available for IT projects and ready for migrations.

As the Environments Manager, you will complete support, environmental maintenance, upgrade and build activities and deliver projects for clients (external or internal) in specialist knowledge area/s. Typically, the Environments Manager will work on the more complex requests for environment support, where there is a ‘highly sensitive’ customer issue or on major projects with significant levels of risk. As well as coordinate and arrange with the relevant third parties the refresh and restore of the Environments in line with Project Plans reviewed by the Customer.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Assessing the current environmental systems and working with the 3rd Party POS vendor to create a full gap analysis required for the project and produce estimates of time to be spent to fulfil requirements
  • Assist in creating an innovative environment strategy which is fit for purpose within a large multi-site, retail organisation
  • Engaging with key stakeholders across the organisation to implement the environment strategy Assessing and reporting on performance and constantly looking for areas of improvement and innovation
  • Environments Plan showing the availability of environments to meet the requirements of all test phases, including end to end environments, cross referenced to environmental booking requests
  • Support (and manage where a customer contract requires it) Environmental NFR’s with regards to Volume and Performance and Disaster Recovery testing.
  • To liaise with all project ‘stakeholders’ to ensure they are sufficiently informed and involved during all stages of the project
  • To supervise the project and ensure early ‘remedial’ action (or escalation), when required
  • To provide input for the preparation of the project budget in own specialist area and ensure delivery against financial targets agreed
  • Organise and own any technical workshops and resulting outputs for setting up relevant test Environments, (including discussion of any new components that are required)
  • Act as the point of contact for system builds, issues and be competent in managing multiple projects and any conflicting demands between them
  • Produce and submit costing and Environment delivery effort estimates with inputs from relevant and appropriate third parties
What we’re looking for:
  • Proven senior management level experience in a similar role
  • Relevant degree level (or equivalent) qualification
  • Excellent communications skills with proven experience engaging a wide range of stakeholders
  • An eye for innovation coupled with a pragmatic approach to delivery within a large multisite environment
  • This position will require a self-starter who can lead by example and hit the ground running
  • Exceptional attention to detail with an ability to prioritise workloads and deliver to tight deadlines


It would also be great if you had experience of, or a desire to learn about:
  • Experience delivering of end-to-end Integrated environments
  • ITIL Foundation Certificate v3 or later
  • Previous experience with network implementation preferred
  • Experience using wide range of technology stacks
  • Experience with Automation frameworks and architecture
